What's the difference between an annulment and a divorce?

Annulments and divorces are very similar. The difference is that while divorces dissolve a valid marriage, annulments treat the marriage as though it never happened. For this reason, annulments usually happen in marriages that only last a short period of time – weeks or months, as opposed to years.
