Foster Adoption
Foster adoption is the process of adopting through the US foster care system. This is different from other adoptions in that the children in foster care were all removed from their homes because of abuse, neglect or another concern for their safety.
Children in foster care can range in age from infancy to teenage. However, the younger end of the spectrum is generally in the toddler stage. In this way, foster children are somewhat like other adopted children.
If you choose to adopt a foster child, you could be performing a great deed. However, bringing a foster child into a loving family setting may not be as easy as you would like. Because these children have been removed from abusive homes, they may have some emotional baggage.
Foster adoptions are generally far less expensive than normal adoptions. This is because the programs receive government funding. If you decide to adopt a foster child, there are a few different ways that you can go about doing so.
You can adopt once the child or children are legally released for adoption, with parental rights terminated. You can also accept placement of a child who may still be reunited with his or her biological family. If this does not occur, you can then adopt the child. You may also become a foster parent and adopt the child already in your care.
